What we're building

Every project starts with a real problem small nonprofit teams face. We build tools that reduce the compliance and operational burden on charitable organizations — making capabilities accessible that would otherwise require dedicated staff or expensive enterprise software.

In Pilot

Nonprofit Compliance & Governance Tool

Compliance tracking, corporate records, and board governance for small nonprofits

Our first project is a web-based compliance and governance tool for small nonprofit organizations, available at app.boldtoad.org. It helps small nonprofits track federal and state filing deadlines, understand and document governance requirements, organize corporate records, and assemble the information needed for annual filings — work that typically falls on already-stretched volunteer boards and executive directors.

The tool is currently available to a limited pilot group. We're using the pilot to evaluate the tool, gather feedback, and refine it before considering whether to expand availability based on pilot results, operational sustainability, and the public benefit demonstrated.

What it does

  • Federal and state filing deadline tracking and reminders
  • Corporate records repository — articles, bylaws, EIN documentation, determination letter, prior filings
  • Board governance support — minutes, consent resolutions, conflict-of-interest tracking, meeting and decision records
  • Annual filing preparation — Form 990 series, state nonprofit registrations, charitable solicitation filings
  • Built for small nonprofits operating without dedicated compliance staff
How we work

A small foundation, focused on real problems

Bold Toad is a single-operator foundation using modern AI tooling to build software that previously would have required a team. Here's the approach behind that work.

🎯

Real problems first

Every project starts from an operational or compliance problem small nonprofits actually face — identified through the sector itself, not from technology looking for a use case.

🤖

AI-leveraged development

Modern AI coding tools let one developer build and maintain software that would previously have required a team. We use them to keep operating costs low and capabilities high — and to pass that economics through to the sector.

🧪

Pilot before scale

We test new tools with limited user groups before considering broader release. Decisions about expanding availability follow from pilot results, not the other way around.

🤝

Mission-aligned terms

Tools made available on terms that further our charitable mission — at no cost, at cost, or otherwise consistent with financial sustainability — as determined by our Board of Directors.

What's next

The pipeline

Our near-term focus is refining what's already in pilot. Beyond that, we're looking at other operational and compliance burdens facing small nonprofits — and identifying which are amenable to AI-powered tooling.

🔁

Refining the pilot

We're using feedback from pilot users of app.boldtoad.org to refine the compliance and governance tool — improving accuracy, coverage, and usability before any decisions about expanded availability.

🔬

Adjacent problems

Small nonprofits face plenty of operational friction beyond compliance. We're identifying which of those problems are recurring, underserved, and amenable to AI-powered solutions — and prototyping where it makes sense.

Your Idea Here

We're listening. If your nonprofit has a technology problem that nobody is solving, we want to hear about it.
